Art Now: Sandra Meigs

September 27, 12:00pm - 01:00pm
Join us on Friday, September 27 for Art NOW with Sandra Meigs
12-12:50 PM
University of Lethbridge, Recital Hall

Sandra Meigs is dedicated to painting and to the possibilities of enchantment that painting presents through colour, form and imagination. She believes that the very authenticity of one’s experience offers proof that what is imagined when looking at a painting is as real as anything else that one experiences in the world.

Meigs won the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts and the Gershon Iskowitz Prize at the AGO in 2015. Recent exhibitions include Room for Mystics, at the Art Gallery of Ontario, I Feel Real, Vivianeart, and The Glass Ticker, Susan Hobbs Gallery, Toronto. She resides in Hamilton, Ontario. Sandra Meigs is represented by Susan Hobbs Gallery, Toronto and Vivianeart, Calgary.

With special thanks to the Thrall family for lending a work to the exhibition and hosting curatorial and artist site visits in the creation of this exhibition, and their legacy of supporting the McIntyre Ranch Project at SAAG.

The SAAG is proud to be a partner of the University of Lethbridge’s Art NOW lecture series. Encompassing presentations by artists, curators, art historians, filmmakers, and gallerists, Art NOW is one of the largest and longest running programs in the country, having hosted more than 700 presenters over more than four decades.

Supported by the Canada Council, the course offers presentations by artists, art historians, curators, theorists and critics. Up to three different speakers per week, representing a wide range of contemporary practices, discuss their art, ideas, working methods, and issues in the visual arts. With about 30 speakers per semester, Art NOW is an amazing resource for anyone interested in contemporary art. Best of all, the lectures are open to the public - everyone is welcome!

The SAAG contributes to the diverse spectrum of presenters by recommending our roster of contemporary practicing artists as guests.
