SAAG Presents: Spiders in Space

May 24, 05:00pm - 07:00pm

A Book Launch and Lecture by Todd Hirsch

Join us for a book launch and lecture by Todd Hirsch co-author, with Robert Roach, of Spiders in Space: Successfully Adapting to Unwanted Change. He’ll discuss how to thrive in new environments. Like spiders brought up to the International Space Station to see if they could spin webs without the help of gravity, businesses, organizations, and individuals often find themselves in unwanted and difficult new circumstances. What do you do when you lose your gravity? Spiders in Space: Successfully Adapting to Unwanted Change draws on interviews with successful adapters to answer this question.

Hirsch is the Chief Economist at ATB Financial, a role that has him zig-zagging across Alberta and the rest of Canada talking with people about the economy and where it’s going. More storytelling than charts and graphs, his presentations seek to demystify the economic trends and forces that affect us. He has served as an Economist at the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Canada West Foundation and the Bank of Canada. For almost a decade he taught Economics at the University of Calgary. Todd is a regular contributor to The Globe and Mail and appears on many local and national media outlets. In 2012, he released his first book, The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline, co-authored with Rob Roach. His second book, Halfway Home, was published in 2016. Todd is the Chair of the Calgary Arts Academy and a member of the University of Calgary’s Board of Governors. A born-and-raised Albertan, Todd holds a BA (Honours) in Economics from the University of Alberta and an MA in Economics from the University of Calgary.
