For the third year in a row, we are pleased to be partnering with North & Company LLP to offer a variety of great programs and activities for Arts Days. North & Co. has been providing quality legal services to southern Alberta since 1973 and has a strong history of community involvement. We are proud to be joining forces with their staff in celebrating the arts in our community!

We’re happy to participate in this year’s Word on the Street Festival organized by the Lethbridge Public Library. Come by our booth to enjoy art activities for all ages and peruse our collection of Artist Publications and program literature.

Kick off your Art Walk at SAAG! Each year our complimentary pancake breakfast has been a staple of our Arts Days fun. Stop by and chat with our sponsors from North & Company who will be busily flipping flapjacks. We will be sure to have plenty of coffee and juice on hand to help fuel you up as you embark on your tour of the arts in downtown Lethbridge.

9 AM to 5 PM
Visit SAAG's Creativity Centre for family friendly fun! Peruse the galleries to snag a sneak peek at the new exhibitions and get creative as you participate in hands-on art activities.

8 to 10 PM
Join us as we celebrate the opening of JeneenFrei Njootli's red rose ad lidii and where/between curated by Pantea Haghighi. During the evening's festivities, you will also be able to take in a performance by Jeneen Frei Njootli in conjunction with her exhibition. Finally, The Shop at SAAG will be launching our latest feature artist, Star Crop Eared Wolf, who will be creating a collection of beaded accessories and photographs along with special custom orders.


WRITING WORKSHOP WITH NANCY TOUSLEY

We are pleased to welcome Nancy Tousley to facilitate the first of two Writing Workshops for 2017. Registrants are required to submit a piece of critical writing prior to class (up to 1000 words). Tousey will reflect upon the written submissions and use her observations to highlight areas of discussion in order to help the class develop critical writing skills. 

Nancy Tousley is an award-winning senior art critic, arts journalist, and independent curator, who received the Governor General's Award for Visual and Media Arts in 2011. She was the Calgary Herald's art critic for more than 30 years and has been a contributing editor to Canadian Art magazine since 1986. Her writing has apprearedin magazines such as Artscanada, Vanguard, Parachute, Border Crossings, and Canadian Art since the early 1970s and in more than 40 public art gallery and museum catalogues. Tousley is also an accomplished curator, having organized exhibitions for the Brooklyn Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Glenbow Museum, and the Art Gallery of York University, among others. 

Known for making art accessible and relevant, Nancy continues to be a nodal point in Canada's art scene. Her work has been recognized with many prestigious awards including the Board of Governors of the Alberta College of Art and Design's Award of Excellence (1997), the Ontario Association of Art Galleries' award for best curatorial writing on contemporary art (1999 and 2001), the Candian Museums Association's award for outstanding achievement in arts journalism (2002) and the medal of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art (2009).

Participants in the Writing Workshop are encouraged to enter SAAG's sixth annual Writing Prize. Applicants are invited to submit a 500-word exhibition review of a recent Canadian exhibition. Writers must be residents of Alberta, and at least 18 years of age, and must have published no more than three pieces of writing in a national magazine. Students and emerging writers are encouraged to participate. Submission deadline: Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
