MESSAGE FROM SAAG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
May 13, 2020

In mid-March, we closed the SAAG to prioritize the health and safety of our community. The SAAG will remain closed to the public until further notice as a precautionary measure to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. We are currently working on our plans to safely open the gallery within the community - but please check our e-news and website for further updates.

Our dedicated SAAG staff is working at home, and we meet online to work and support each other. We will continue to share our SAAG exhibition content and interesting contemporary art resources online. We have adapted many of our public engagement programs for youth and adults, and there are lots of creative and inspiring ways to connect.

The Art’s Alive and Well in the Schools exhibition has been realized as a community virtual exhibition: the SAAG has shared online art projects for youth artists to complete at home, and an incredible virtual exhibition showcases this creativity: Art’s Alive and Well in Our Homes. It features youth artworks from the Lethbridge School Division, in cooperation with the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division, and École La Vérendrye will share their creativity in an online gallery. Please enjoy and vote for your favourites by May 22, here.

The SAAG at Home series will provide virtual youth kinderSAAG and miniSAAG art classes, with art materials you can find at home. All of our programs are easy to access, and are free by donation. Please register for these sessions online.

We have many incredible virtual adult public engagement programs and art parties planned through until the end of June - from the Bletcher Hour critical reading theory group, to online Eco-Tote workshops, and a fabulous party-at-home Pride event. More information is available here.

The Into the Streets photographic mural by Faye HeavyShield is viewable from the exterior of the gallery or online, and via our social media, we are providing interviews with the artists and curators, beautiful gallery images and extra video clips so you can experience by distance, our exhibitions by Faye HeavyShield, Santiago Mostyn, and Bryce Singer.

We hope everyone stays safe, healthy, and can find some community and inspiration from the SAAG - and we really look forward to seeing you again and welcoming you back to the gallery when it is safe to do so. Thank you to the community for staying involved with us during this time!

Kristy Trinier
