Catherine Ross

2026 Feature Artist

CATHERINE ROSS

We are delighted to announce that acclaimed sculptor Catherine Ross is the Feature Artist for Art Auction 2026!

Catherine has been a cornerstone of the southern Alberta arts community since arriving in Lethbridge from Halifax in 1989. Known for her profound sensitivity to everyday objects and the intricacies of materiality, her sculptural practice is deeply inspired by the prairie landscape and the quiet accumulation of time. Over the decades, her work has continually invited viewers to find wonder and beauty in the world around them.

It is fitting to have Catherine celebrated during the Gallery’s milestone 50th anniversary year given her ongoing contributions to the arts, both locally, and beyond. Catherine has had several important projects with the Gallery, including her solo exhibition Stella Mere in 2000, and two-person show, Between Material and Imagination with Denton Fredrickson that coincided with the unveiling of their new collaborative public artwork on the exterior of the Gallery, Aeolian Aviary. Her over 25-year career as a technician in the Fine Arts department at the University of Lethbridge has supported countless early-career artists at a critical stage of their burgeoning practices, offering an immeasurable impact to our arts scene. Reflecting on her time in Lethbridge, Catherine shares that:

"The art scene has changed, the city has changed, the socio-political environment has changed, and all to the good, and I think SAAG has changed. And I can't think of this city without SAAG."

We extend our deepest gratitude to Catherine for her dedication to her practice and tireless work in the community. We cannot wait to share Catherine's phenomenal feature artworks and the story of her life and artistic practice with you at Art Auction 2026.

Our thanks also goes out to donor Nimisha Manji, whose generous support makes the 2026 Feature Artist presentation possible.
